The University of Miami has partnered with South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS), a program of the Florida Department of Transportation, to provide transportation related programs and services to UM students, faculty and staff.

Carpool to Campus

RideFlag, University of Miami’s new carpool on-demand mobile app makes carpooling to campus a great option by providing you carpool matches in real time as well as allow you to schedule future carpool rides. Download the RideFlag app and register with your UM email.

  1. Enter your destination and get instant carpool matches, or schedule future rides.
  2. You decide with whom you ride or drive with.
  3. Vehicles must have a valid UM parking permit.

RideFlag is building the UM Circle of Commuters, these are members of the UM community who download the application in order to find carpool matches. This “Circle” will be prioritized in your match listing because of their affiliation with UM.

Emergency Ride Home Program

Get a free ride home from campus when there’s an emergency!

The Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program provides commuters in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie Counties who carpool, vanpool, ride transit, bike and walk, to campus at least two times per week with six free taxi cab vouchers a year to use in the event of an unexpected emergency or unscheduled overtime.

Are you in a carpool registered with SFCS? You will automatically be enrolled in the ERH program.

University of Miami Public Transit Discount Programs

Various discounts are available to students, faculty, and staff that use Miami-Dade Transit to commute to campus.

Miami Dade Transit’s (MDT) College Discount Program offers a 50% discount over MDT’s monthly fare. Student Easy Cards are $56.25 per month and Metrorail parking passes are an additional $11.25 per month. CLICK HERE for more information.

Tri-Rail’s Student Discount Program provides a 50% discount on monthly, roundtrip and one-way tickets. CLICK HERE for more information.

Transit Easy Cards and passes are available for purchase the last week of the month in the Information Center located at the University Center of the Coral Gables campus. The University Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. For more information, please call 305-284-2318.

Riding a bike in a group can be safer and more fun than riding alone. SFCS can help you connect with other cyclists interested in riding together to campus.
